Generative AI, or GenAI, is a type of artificial intelligence that can create new content, whether it's writing, images, or music, based on the vast amounts of data it's trained on. Think of it like a highly advanced computer program that's absorbed a huge library of human creativity and can now produce its own original content. It works by recognizing patterns and structures in the data it's seen, and then it uses that knowledge to generate new, similar pieces.

Examples of GenAI Tools

  • Microsoft Copilot | Free
  • Bing Chat | Free
  • ChatGPT | Version 3.5: Free | Version 4: Paid
  • Canva Magic Studio | Free/Freemium
  • Adobe Firefly | Free/Freemium
  • Zoom AI Companion | Free (for paid customers)
  • GrammarlyGO | Free/Freemium
  • Google Bard | Free/Freemium
  • Claude | Free/Freemium

Test Suggestions and Best Practices

  • Ask questions to Bing Chat.
  • Create a ChatGPT account and test it.
  • Ask Microsoft Copilot to draft content for you.
  • Ask Bing Chat or ChatGPT to summarize a report as a specialist in a given field.
    • Then, ask follow-up questions to the bot.
    • Criticize the bot's answer.
    • Request sources/supporting evidence about the information produced by the bot, etc.
  • Compare Google Search results with Bing Chat or ChatGPT ones.
  • Compare Bing Chat outputs with ChatGPT ones, etc.
  • Chatbots can hallucinate. So, don’t consider chatbot output as authoritative. Instead, review it and identify inaccurate, nonsensical or inconsistent content.
